The North Carolina Research Campus is making an investment in new lab space that it hopes will help draw new companies.

Some 1,500 square feet of “wet lab” space will be built on the third floor of the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory building.

The “ready-to-go” space as the NCRC described it is the first pre-built space at the four-year-old campus.

“We have experienced a significant increase in the number of inquiries regarding ready-to-go lab space,” said Clyde Higgs, NCRC’s vice president of Business Development. “The spec space incorporates a level of flexibility and affordability that will increase the attractiveness of the campus and meet the needs of both small and large companies that find the campus a good fit for their business.”

The lab space was announced on Friday.

The space will include:

  • Administrative areas
  • Bench tops
  • Fume hoods
  • Sinks
  • Storage

The main building already houses genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, analytical sciences and advanced instrumentation labs.

NCRC includes five buildings, more than 1 million square feet of lab and office space, and includes General Mills, Sensory Spectrum, Monsanto, LabCorp, Dole Foods, Inc. and Crown Bio as tenants.
