Lenovo, bidding to become the undisputed No. 1 PC seller in the world, is stepping up its efforts to sell more hardware and services to businesses with a new Enterprise Product Group.

Roy Guillen, a former vice president and general manager for Dell’s data center solutions business, will lead the group with the title of vice president and general manager.

The new initiative will focus on driving more business in servers, storage, networking and software. The group also will work with EMC, which Lenovo formed a partnership recently to focus on development of new storage products and other storage related efforts.

Lenovo is basically tied with HP (NYSE: HPQ) for the top spot in global PC sales and has significantly ramped up efforts to sell more PCs, laptops and tablets to consumers worldwide.

However, its recent decision to begin building PCs at a new assembly line in its Triad distribution center was driven in part by Lenovo’s desire to custom manufacture, deliver and service PCs for corporate customers.

“As we aggressively expand the breadth of our product portfolio, the Enterprise Product Group will answer the increased demand for robust server, storage and cloud solutions in both mature and emerging markets,” said Peter Hortensius, senior vice president, and president of Lenovo’s Product Group.

“Under Roy Guillen’s leadership, the new Enterprise Product Group will include development, operations, and marketing teams whose job it is to manage and grow our portfolio of new products, identify new alliances and partnerships, and accelerate Lenovo’s credibility as a supplier of enterprise solution to customers around the world,” he added.

Lenovo is aiming to win a bigger share in the global server market, citing research from IDC that forecasts $40.6 billion in sales in that segment in 2014 as more businesses and enterprises embrace cloud computing and growing demand for data storage.

The company, which operates its executive headquarters in Morrisville, promised more product choices.

“With critical product refreshes to be announced in the coming months and into 2013, Lenovo’s commercial customers will soon have a complete set of enterprise-level products to choose from complimenting those already available to end users deploying Think and Idea-branded offerings,” Lenovo said.
