Aaron Williams, director of the Peace Corps since 2009, will join RTI as executive vice president for international development next week.

He has worked at RTI before.

RTI said early Tuesday that Williams would rejoin RTI as of Oct. 29.

From 2003-2009, Williams worked in RTI’s International Development Group with a focus on health, education and democratic governance issues,

“Aaron Williams is the ideal person to lead our global development programs as we go forward,” said RTI Chief Executive Officer Wayne Holden. “He knows our organization, our people and our capabilities, and he is an internationally recognized expert in international development and diplomacy.”

The move is the latest in a series of executive changes made by Holden, who recently took over as CEO.

Williams once served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic for three years.

“I have tremendous respect for RTI and its mission to improve the human condition,” Williams said in a statement from RTI “Through its work around the world to improve health, education, governance and economic opportunity, RTI is improving the lives of people in developing nations.”

A former executive vice president of the International Youth Foundation in Baltimore, Williams has received numerous awards and has been a board member for such groups as CARE, National Peace Corps Association and the Institute for Sustainable Communities.

He currently is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
