Some 20 employees will lose their jobs as part of the acquisition of Cary-based StraTech by DataLink.

The deal, valued at $20.25 million plus assumption of $20.8 million in debt and $16 million in assets from StraTech, closed Friday, the companies announced.

Some 80 percent of StraTech’s employees have been offered jobs by DataLink, and another 10 will continue to work under contract, the companies added.  StraTech operates data centers and provides information technology services.

“Transition services positions, primarily in accounting and internal IT, are redundant with current Datalink employees, and will be eliminated after the transition period,” the companies said in a joint release.

Formerly known as Consonus, StraTech also for years was known as Strategic Technologies. StraTech was owned by Midas Medici Group Holdings.

“We are pleased with the strategic sale of our StraTech business,” said Nana Baffour, CEO and co-founder of Midas Medici and executive chairman of StraTech. “For the past two years, we have successfully grown StraTech and attracted several marquee customers to the organization, which Datalink considers to be valuable assets.

“We were able to do this in the midst of a severe economic recession as well as the significant adverse impact of Sun’s acquisition by Oracle. I am particularly proud of our leadership team and the talented employees at StraTech who made this possible, as well as the great customers that trusted us to serve them over the years.”

DataLink is based in Minneapolis, Minn.

The deal was announced Tuesday.

StraTech was known as Consonus after a merger between Consonus and Strategic Technologies. The firm’s name was later changed to StraTech..

StraTech was co-founded by Mike and Will Shook. The Shooks left the company in 2009.
