Only one is six of 123 applicants made the cut for grants worth up to $50,000 in the latest round of funding from NC IDEA.

The Durham-based economic development group will award grants to as many as six firms in December, and on Wednesday it said 23 firms had been selected as semifinalists.

All are technology focused, and each now has the opportunity to submit more complete business plans to the funders.

The grants are non-dilutive.

The winning firms also will receive mentoring and other support. 

NC IDEA has awarded $2.5 million to 67 companies over the past six years. Grants are made twice yearly.
