The owner of the Carolina Hurricanes and the chief executive officer of Wake Forest-based PowerSecure are among the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award winners for 2012.

Peter Karmanos, Jr., CEO and owner of the Raleigh-based NHL franchise, was cited for community impact.

Sidney Hinton, CEO of PowerSecure International, Inc., was honored in the real estate and industrial services category.

In technology and communications, the winner was Per Loof, CEO of KEMET Corporation, which is based in Simpsonville, S.C.
