Novozymes, a producer of enzymes and microorganisms for use in such products as alternative fuels and ethanol, is opening a new office in Ames, Iowa.

The “solutions center” is being established to provide support and technical services to biofuels customers. The office will open in April, and training programs are scheduled to be launched in July.

“This regional facility extends our presence and will allow us to continually improve the efficiency of ethanol production with our customers,” said Tom Burns, Novozymes’ customer solutions manager. “By strategically locating this satellite office in the heart of America’s fuel ethanol industry, we are better able to serve Novozymes’ customers through closer access to our experts, analytical support and a regional training center.”

Novozymes is using its enzyme technology for production of fuel ethanol from corn and agriculture residue. The company’s U.S. headquarters are located in Franklinton.`

President Bush recently visited the facility as part of his campaign to encourage use of alternative fuels and reduce dependence on foreign oil.
