John McConnell, right, and his attorney Larry Robbins pose for a photographer before McConnell received the Entrepreneurial Excellence award at the CED’s 20th annual Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards program in Durham on Wednesday night.

McConnell’s second incredibly lucrative sale of a technology company earlier this year earned him the CED award. McConnell sold A4 Health Systems to Allscripts for $272 million in cash and stock. He co-founded Medic Computers in 1982, took it public a decade later and sold it in 1997.

Robbins is with the Raleigh law firm Wyrick Robbins Yates & Ponton.
