Angel investors will gather on May 2 in Pinehurst to hear presentations from eight startup companies seeking financing.

The regional event is being put on by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development along with other entrepreneur-focused groups.

Eight companies have been selected to make presentations.

The “Angel Investor Retreat” is for high net worth individuals who are active, accredited angel investors from North Carolina and the Southeast.

Participating companies are:

  • AudioFusion (Winston-Salem) – medical hearing device

  • Camden Products (Elizabeth City) – antimicrobial coating and application system to prevent mold

  • Consolidated Asset Recovery Systems (Raleigh) – Internet portal for asset recovery

  • InfoStrength (Raleigh) – compliance software for life science companies

  • MD Scientific (Charlotte) – medical products for controlling blood glucose and preventing acute kidney failure

  • MicroPhase Coatings (Garner) – advanced coatings for boats and other manufacturing processes

  • Novovita (Raleigh) – ag-biotech process for waste recycling

  • Sylvan Sport (Cedar Mountain) – mobile sport trailer with “back-pack on wheels”
  • “Last year’s Angel Investor Retreat was oversubscribed, and we look forward to another strong turnout of angels this year,” said CED President Monica Doss in a statement. “We are seeing exponential growth in good startups seeking seed-stage capital. Angels are a critical supply not only of capital, but they also bring domain expertise, networks, and business expertise to promising startups. With a notable shortage of other seed-stage resources in our state, North Carolina’s angels are especially important to our entrepreneurial future.”

Participating groups include the Blue Ridge Angel Investor Network (BRAIN) of Asheville, Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council (BREC) of Asheville, Business Innovation & Growth Council (BIG) of Charlotte, Charleston Angel Partners (CHAP), Eastern North Carolina Investor Network (ENC-IN) of Greenville, Inception Micro Angel Fund (IMAF) of Winston-Salem, NC IDEA of Durham, Piedmont Angel Network (PAN) of the Triad, Piedmont Triad Entrepreneurial Network (PTEN), Research Triangle Ventures (RTV) of Raleigh, Triangle Accredited Capital Forum (TACF), Tri-State Investment Group IV (TIG IV) of Chapel Hill, Wilmington Investor Network (WIN) and others, according to the CED.

A panel discussion about “What Makes an Angel Deal Work” is also part of the program.

Accredited angel investors who are interested in attending should contact the CED’s Robert Albright via phone (919.549.7500 x123) or email (ralbright@cednc.org).

The angel event is being held in conjunction with the CED’s annual venture capital conference, which is set for May 2-3.
