The Piedmont Triad Partnership, the North Carolina Department of Commerce and Winston-Salem Business, Inc. have received the 2004 Deal of the Year award by CoreNet Global for the economic development.

Factors influencing the decision were the collaboration of the three organizations in successfully recruiting Dell, Inc. to North Carolina and Winston-Salem, the economic impact of the project on the region and state, and the project’s affirmation of the Piedmont Triad’s emergence as an East Coast center for advanced manufacturing and distribution.

“This is a very significant recognition for the Piedmont Triad Region, the State of North Carolina, and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County,” said Don Forsyth, president of the PTP. “CoreNet Global is the world’s premier association for corporate real estate and related professionals with over 7,500 members. This award will be a huge boost to the visibility of the Piedmont Triad Region among corporate real estate executives and national real estate professionals.

Dell’s decision to locate in Winston-Salem has been a transformational announcement for the entire Piedmont Triad Region.

“Dell’s selection of the Winston-Salem area has created a level of excitement that we have not seen in years. Overnight, it has become the catalyst that is moving us from a traditional manufacturing community to an advanced manufacturing and logistics community,” said Bob Leak, Jr., president of Winston-Salem Business Inc.

The Piedmont Triad Partnership is one of seven regional economic development partnerships in North Carolina. It is the economic development and marketing organization representing the 12-county Piedmont Triad region.
