CHARLOTTE — Local Tech Wire takes on a much different appearance today and includes several new features.

“We take quite seriously the feedback we receive from our readers, and the site today reflects many of their requests,” says Andy Agrawal, LTW’s founder and chairman. “But what people see today is only the first in a series of steps we are taking to add more features, to make the site even easier to navigate, and to make registration easier and more intuitive.

“We also will be adding more content and more coverage even as we continue to deliver exclusive and breaking tech news in the Research Triangle, Charlotte, Atlanta and Carolinas markets.”

The changes and additions include:

1. A simpler log-in process in the upper right corner

2. A “remember me” feature for subscribers who don’t want to be required to log in each time they return to the site

3. A daily email alert feature has been added. Subscribers can choose to have the alerts delivered daily in either HTML or text format by clicking on “Preferences” under “Subscriber Services”.

4. A reminder about when subscriptions end

5. Content menus for stories within the six major categories on the left side (“What’s Hot”, “Features”, “Editorial”, “Venture Watch”, “Bio Watch” and “The Skinny”, which are reader forums). When passing the mouse over the categories, readers will automatically see the menus.

6. The Daily Archive has been expanded, pointing readers to all stories that appear on a specific date.

7. Forget your password? A reminder can be sent to you through “Subscriber Services”.

8. Subscriber Services also have been revamped and simplified for easier registration and payment.

9. Pages are narrower now, a reaction to the stated desire from many people who want to print out and save stories that appear on the site.

Local Tech Wire is a subscription-based service. Monthly fee is $9.95.
