Viemetrics wins top $10K prize at LuLu eGames

Lulu eGames awared $100K to new ventues

Viemetrics, a company that has developed a low-cost, portable spirometer that can potentially predict asthma attacks, won the $10,000 first prize prize for new ventures at the 2017 Lulu eGames yesterday. Lulu eGames awarded more than $100,000 in prize money across six different categories, including the Daugherty Endowment category for companies who have licensed NC State intellectual property.

Over 350 people attended the Lulu eGames LIVE event on Thursday at North Carolina State University. The annual competition is sponsored by Lulu.com in partnership with the NC State Entrepreneurship Initiative.

The winning teams emerged from over 190 entries and were chosen by a panel of judges from two rounds of competition. The final winners were selected based on combined scores from a business plan and in-person pitch.

2ND PLACE – $7,000 | Sakarotec

2ND PLACE – $3,000 | thrive collective

Thrive Collective is an organization that fosters collaboration and education in the nonprofit sector.

3RD PLACE – $2,000 | Crimson Moon Records

Crimson Moon Records is a recording studio dedicated to helping artists and students express themselves.

Built on Cloud

For ventures developed using one or more of IBM’s Cloud Services.

1ST PLACE – $5,000 | ripenow

RipeNow is a platform that connects restaurants with crowd-sourced produce from local farms.

2ND PLACE – $3,000 | Medtraq

Medtraq is a handwashing compliance system that aims to reduce the $9.8 billion in preventable healthcare costs associated with hospital acquired infections.

3RD PLACE – $2,000 | ataristicians

Ataristicians is a venture aimed at combining video games with artificial intelligence research and statistical teaching.
