Verizon Wireless now offers 4G LTE wireless coverage across 87 percent of North Carolina.

More of Orange County and Sampson County recently received the fastest coverage as Verizon Wireless continues to add long-term evolution, or LTE, capacity and towers.

Since January, the company says it has added 140 4g LTE-equipped towers.

“When Verizon started building out the 4G LTE network in North Carolina in late 2011, we made a commitment that we would include rural areas in our roll-out,” said Jerry Fountain , president for Verizon Wireless’s Carolinas/Tennessee region. “Today, I am pleased to share that significant portions of two counties in the Tar Heel State have access to the best wireless data speeds.”

Verizon Wireless plans to “cover” older 3G service in rural areas by mid-2013.
