Twitter is building a new product that would allow users more than the skimpy 140 character tweet limit on the microblogging service, according to a report by Recode.

The report says its not clear what the product will look like, but unnamed sources close to the company said it would let Twitter users post long form content.

Sources also told Recode the 140 charactrer limit has been a topic of disucssion internally for years and resurfaced recently as interim CEO Jack Dorsey looks for new ways to grow the company.

The company is also rethinking how it calculates the 140 character limit and may tweak it to remove links and user handles from the count. That alone would give Twitter another sentence.

Twitter needs new users. Dorsey, during the company’s latest earnings call noted it needs to attract a more mainstream audience. Longer tweets might help do that.
