The details:

  • DuPont backs PrecisionHawk

The Triangle Business Journal has the details about DuPont joining the team of investors backing drone technology firm PrecisionHawk.

“PrecisionHawk is no stranger to DuPont, having been providing its tools and services to the agriculture company for years. Specifically, PrecisionHawk is developing ways for farmers to be even more aware of what’s happening in their fields,” TBJ reports.

“PrecisionHawk drones are able to capture high-resolution data that can give them valuable insights on their acres – everything from moisture level to plant health.”

The Raleigh-based startup led by Bob Young recently closed on an $18 million round. The DuPont investment was not included in that total, TBJ said.

  • New agbio fund

Xconomy reports that a new investment fund targeting the agbio tech sector has launched. The fund targets money AND land.

“Willow Hill Ventures combines the agtech investment experience of San Diego-based Finistere Ventures with the land assets of International Farming Corporation, a Kinston, NC-based firm that invests in farmland. The companies say Willow Hill could fill the Series B funding gap facing agtech startups, and help gain traction in the marketplace. The announcement of the new fund on Tuesday came during Global AgInvesting, an annual global agriculture investment conference in New York this week,” xConomy reports.

How much money is available was not disclosed.
