Contrary to one of the most often cited premises in so-called "bathroom bills" such as North Carolina's House Bill 2, transgender people do not pose a threat to others in public or private spaces, according to a new study from RTI International. Rather, the report concludes that transgender people as well as other members of the LGBTQ+ communities are at "high risk" of being victims of physical and sexual assault as well as other crimes....

"I just wish you people would understand...it's NOT THE LGBT people that concern us. It's the perverted people that would take advantage of it. By having this law passed it gives us an additional charge to levy against a pervert that takes advantage of a child or disabled person. More jail time for the guilty!"

What law? The Charlotte ordinance is gone. Why is HB2 even being discussed anymore? Its reason for existing is no more. Why do we just NOW suddenly want a law that lets us stack another charge in addition to the sexual assault charge on a creeper in a bathroom? What has changed? What is this really accomplishing?
Why is this posted on Wral TechWire? This report does not belong on this site. I think it is sufficient to have this posted on WRAL.com.

Is there a technology component I am missing here?
lesteroliver... yes your way of one second there is nothing and the next there is a huge explosion, makes so much more sense. Laws of society don't just appear out of nothingness, just like laws of physics. Even Einstein believed in God. You are not the first to be mislead into believing that if you can't understand it, it isn't so, nor will you be the last.

I am a woman and I was in Toronto recently and the museum had a restroom open to everyone - male, female, transgender, whatever. While I was in there, a man came in and walked into a stall, used it and left. It wasn't weird. No one assaulted anyone. People just need to pee. That museum has never had any problems. If someone wants to assault you, they'll do it, whether it's in a bathroom or on the street or on a bus. HB2 and other laws like it are ridiculous and need to be repealed. We need to start being kind to each other again.
ayby06112- Actually, the laws were not based upon the 10 commandments. The Code of Hammurabi dating back to 1754 BC is a very complex system of laws and could be cited as an example of establishment of law. The 10 commandments are just basic guidelines for morality, which is actually arguably inherent in the average human being. Now, as to the rationale behind the "bathroom bill"- It IS based on fear and discrimination, not in the opportunity for non-transgender to utilize the law for ill will. if a man is disturbed enough to want to get into a woman's restroom or locker room, he'll do it. It's already done now and without fake boobs and lipstick.
lesteroliver....A majority of laws created in this country were based upon the Holy Scriptures (i.e. 10 Commandments). If you choose to take religion out of this, at least look at it from a logical, anatomical vantage point. Males and females were made differently, please get that simple concept. Praying for you!!
Once again, there is a misunderstanding of the objection to these bathroom laws. It is not out of fear of transgenders that people oppose it. It is because non transgender people will have an opportunity to take advantage of the law to gain access to bathrooms. Men not transgenders in women's bathrooms.More girls and women are victims of men, then transgenders are victims of anyone.Laws should be in place to protect the more common types of abuse, and not increase the risk to a larger population. It's about the numbers, not the orientation.
Tennyparksk, you are part of the problem. Your "god" is of no concern in the laws of the United States of America! Keep those silly myths to yourself. The only PSYCHO's I know are bible thumpers who believe in some silly sky god who made a dust man and a rib woman who was tricked into eating an apple by a talking snake. THAT is crazy and the people who think that book should be used to rule over other peoples lives are among the most ignorant in the world. Keep that junk to yourself.
You seem like a fun person.
