Robotics startup ARiCON aims to change the way commercial buildings are built and it’s taking its first step by setting up shop in Charlotte business incubator Ventureprise.
ARiCON is short for “Automated Robotics in Construction.” The company is developing small robot platforms called ARiBOTs, for the construction industry. ARiCON says its robots will using architectural plans to precisely measure and mark interior walls, plumbing and HVAC systems faster and more accurately than traditional methods.
ARiCON is a joint venture between CoroWare (OTC:COWI), a Kirkland, Washington computer and robotics software company, and private investor Lucas Snyder. CoroWare brings to the partnership its mobile robotics development capabilities; Snyder contributes construction industry knowledge, expertise and customer relationships.
In addition to establishing ARiCON in Charlotte, CoroWare has also relocated its robotics design, development and manufacturing center to Ventureprise.
“We chose Ventureprise at The Ben Craig Center as our start-up home because of their reputation as a substantive resource with a full range of facility and business advisory services for high tech, fast growth ventures,” ARiCON President Joe Daziel said in a prepared statement.
Ventureprise is the former Ben Craig Center, the business incubator at UNC Charlotte. Last year, the non-profit organization introduced changes that included expanding the organization’s mission of supporting entrepreneurs and adopting the new Ventureprise name.
