Long-time IBM and Lenovo veteran Peter Hortensius is moving from chief technology officer of the world’s largest PC manufacturer to a CTO job with Lenovo’s newly organized Data Center Group. Lenovo says it is looking for a new CTO for the entire company.

The move, which was announced Monday, is part of a major reorganization Lenovo announced two weeks ago.

George He, another Lenovo veteran who now heads the Lenovo Capital and Investment Group, will replace Hortensius in the current CTO role as a search for a replacement continues, Lenovo said.

The changes take effect April 1.

“Peter has been a visionary leader for Lenovo as our CTO. He has helped us break new ground, maintain our innovation advantages and bring new concepts to life in the lab and for our customers,” said Lenovo chair and CEO Yang Yuanqing in a statement. “We need his skills and experience to make absolutely sure we win with innovation in DCG. “

Hortensius worked at IBM for 17 years before joining Lenovo after Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC business in 2005.

He is one of Lenovo’s longest-serving executives and had been CTO in the past.

“George has been a key leader at Lenovo for 30 years, and he served as CTO for much of that time as well,” Yang said. “He has a strong track record in delivering innovation and has worked closely with Peter.  Even as we look for our next CTO, we will continue to invest in and focus on innovation as a top priority.”
