As temperatures have fallen, so has the number of open information technology jobs across North Carolina. A new report shows that the daily advertised list of available jobs declined for the fifth consecutive month in November.

Job openings fell 2.7 percent to a daily average of 3,230, according to the North Carolina IT Job Trends report from the North Carolina Technology Association.

That total also is below November averages last year (3,550) and in 2011 (3,890).

Openings have fallen every month since peaking at more than 4,000 in June.

The NCTA report, which is based on data provided by talent management firm SkillProof, described the job market as “cool.”

“This brings labor demand back to a similar level as at the beginning of this year,” the report noted.

“Over the past two years employers have demonstrated a ‘camel back’ of job postings where they ramp up their published needs during the first part of the year only to pull back at the end. The
trend between November 2011 and today has been a slow decline of posted needs. The trend over the past four years is flat since there were fewer postings in 2010 / 2011 than in 2012.”

There was soe good news in the report with demand increasing in some IT categories.

IT management jobs increased to 680 from 560 a year ago. Plus, business process and design openings jumped to 160 from 40. The “miscellaneous” category increased to 70 from 40.

Nationally, IT job openings fell by 3.7 percent.
