Triangle entrepreneurs and business developers are ALWAYS trying to convince Silicon Valley investors to place bets on firms in the region. But the latest Silicon Valley linked outpost – this one in Raleigh – is from a new office.

UberConference, a high-profile startup which is backed by investors Google Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, is now doing business at a new office in downtown Raleigh. And the “help wanted” sign is out.

It’s aim is “audio conferencing done right.”

The company won the TechCrunch Disrupt NY 2012, has won the INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award for two straight years, and has raised $18 million in financing.

The company, which has developed proprietary visual conference technology, says it expects to hire “up to 20” people in a number of different areas.

Openings include:

  • Operations
  • Sales
  • Customer service

UberConference offers a visual interface and is designed with the goal of making conference calls easier as well as more productive.

T.R. Missner is the general manager for the Raleigh office, which is the first the company has opened outside of San Francisco, where it is headquartered, and San Jose.

“Raleigh is a thriving, dynamic market with an extraordinary talent pool,” Missaner said in announcing the office opening. “Establishment of our office in Raleigh makes it possible for us to provide exceptional customer service with extended hours, and expand brand awareness and product knowledge through East Coast sales channels.

“It’s another step in our strategy to provide the best conference calling service in the world.”

UberConference was founded by communications veteran Craig Walker, who ran Google Voice at one time. He joined Google after the Internet giant acquired his company called GrandCentralCommunications in 2007.

Walker later left Google to become the first Entrepreneur in residence at Google Ventures, which is the investment arm of Google.

Before launching GrandCentral, Walker served as CEO of Dialpad Communications. it was acquired by Yahoo in 2005 and became the basis for Yahoo Voice.

Walker recruited members of his former ventures to help launch UberConference, which launched in 2012.

The company says it already has “tens of millions of users.”
