BioMetrix, a startup founded by a pair of Duke University athletes who met while rehabilitating injuries, is moving toward formal launch and sale of its wearable monitors designed for use in rehab. They are nearing the end of an Indiegogo fund-raising campaign, offering some interesting incentives that the athlete-in-you might find interesting.

The company is gearing to launch products called BioMX in August.

“A disruptive technology in both the worlds of orthotics and wearables, our product is a dynamic (as opposed to a rigid) orthotic that uses embedded sensor technology to give feedback about pronation, arch collapse, and much more,” its founders say.

“The product mimics the natural, biological structures of the foot to provide support that moves with the user in any setting. It can then report your risk indicators, track your improvement, and train you away from bad habits.”

Here is how they describe BioMX:

  • BioMX is a tool for medical professionals, experienced coaches and athletes with chronic injury or recovering from an injury
  • BioMX empowers users with unprecedented, feedback on changes in biomechanical indicators during rehab and PT routines
  • BioMX tracks performance and informs an athlete’s progression through prevention and rehabilitation training
  • BioMX is a highly customizable, visual way to quantify and improve your rehab as easily as you quantify performance

So what’s the company all about?

Here’s how Jon Mareane described BioMetrix in a recent ExitEvent story:

“Most people who have been active at some period in their life have dealt with the horror of physical therapy and and rehabilitation. Founders and Duke athletes Ivonna Dumanyan and Gabrielle Levac probably know about the struggle far better than you and I do. The company was actually formed as a result of their own injuries and rehabilitation. The two met in the training room at Duke after a series of injuries that took them out of their respective athletic pursuits, and BioMetrix was born.”

BioMetrix gear tracks stride and motion rather than heartbeat, steps, calories, and such.
