Consumers demanding free, fast shipping – and retailers are answering the demands, according to data compiled by global ecommerce services provider ChannelAdvisor.

Data from the Thanksgiving holiday shopping weekend – what CA defines as “Cyber Five” – shows more than 80 percent of customers using CA clients capitalized on free shipping. That’s up more than 14 percent year-over year.

Citing recent information from comScore and Deloitte, CA concludes in a blog: “What used to be a “nice to have” has become a necessity for retailers to remain competitive.”

More than 53 percent told comScore that free shipping is the “most important” factor in shopping online.

CA notes that in a Deloitte survey “63% of consumers a year ago thought 3-4 days was fast; that is down 21% y/y to only 42% that consider 3-4 days fast.
