Raleigh-based BioDelivery Sciences International (Nasdaq:BDSI) has shelved $150 million in shares according to a regulatory filing, Jason deBruyn reports in the Triangle Business Journal. Putting shares on a virtual shelf is something public companies often do ahead of raising additional money from public markets.

AgBiome and Genective collaborate to create insect-resistant crops

RTP-based AgBiome, and Frenh firm Genective, a key developer of biotech crops,have formed astrategic partnership to accelerate the discovery of new generations of insect control traits.

“Growers need new traits for insect control to counter the realities of advancing insect resistance. We are pleased to partner with Genective, aligning AgBiome’s unique insect control technology with Genective’s capability in developing transgenic traits,” said Eric Ward, co-chief executive officer at AgBiome.

Genective’s CEO Bruce Lee commented in a statement, “Our success in developing corn traits, combined with AgBiome’s unique pipeline for identifying a vast number of new candidate trait genes, will offer the seed industry a potential range of novel and critically needed products.”
The exact terms and rights granted to each partner are not being disclosed.

Southwire buying Huntersville cable manufacturing plant

Georgia-based Southwire Company has signed an agreement with ABB, Inc., to purchase a high-voltage and extra high-voltage underground transmission cable manufacturing plant in Huntersville, North Carolina.

The 240,000-square-foot, 3-year-old plant on a 20-acre site at Commerce Station Business Park features state-of-the-art technology for producing high-voltage and extra high-voltage underground transmission cables.

Through the acquisition, which is expected to close in the third quarter, Southwire adds extra high-voltage cable products to its portfolio and expands its capacity to produce high-voltage cable, a market in which it already is a leading manufacturer.

Micosoft to finalize Windows 10 this week

Microsoft will wrap-up Windows 10 this week ahead of launch and get final copies to its PC partners for release to the public July 29, The Verge reports.

The company, which is moving Win 10 to a “Windows as a service model,” says this is the final version of the iconic operating system.
