Power technology and automation firm ABB (NYSE:ABB) has acquired a French company Newron System, whose software is used in automating processes in buildings.
No financial terms were disclosed for the acquisition of Newron, which is based in Toulouse, France. But ABB said that Newron’s annual sales are under $10 million. Switzerland-based ABB operates its North American headquarters from Cary and also has a research center on N.C. State University’s Centennial Campus.
Newron’s software allows for different devices within a building, such as blind controls and light, to communicate with each other and to be managed centrally. ABB said the Newron acquisition fits its strategy of doing more business in automation for buildings. ABB said Newron’s offerings are complementary to its own. Newron will become part of ABB’s Low Voltage Products division.
“We are buying state-of-art software and know-how,” Hans-Georg Krabbe, head of the Wiring Accessories business unit in ABB’s LP division, said in a statement. “Newron System will enlarge our offering to our wholesaler and system-integrator partners for automation solutions in buildings.”
