Wilmington — The BioMarine Convention of company leaders, investors, and government leaders focused on business deal-making in the diverse marine biotech market space is set to start at the Southeastern North Carolina Biotechnology Center Tuesday and Wednesday with an opening reception Monday night.

The event features an invite-only “Taste of North Carolina” welcome reception featuring seafood from across the state and the Mid-Atlantic Bluegrass Band tonight (Monday) on the fantail of the USS North Carolina Battleship.

The convention starting Tuesday includes Master of Ceremonies, UNCW Chancellor Jose “Zito” Sartarelli, and comments from Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, NC Department of Commerce Chief of Staff Cecilia Holden, and NC Biotech Center President and CEO Doug Edgeton.

A special investor tract this year features an investor workship with with several innovative biomarine companies from North America, Europe and Asia presenting. There will also be a panel discussion on the state of the industry and VC investment from industry experts and investors.

Previously, the convention, which limits attendance to 300 top investors, CEOs, and government leaders in the BioMarine space, were held at Nantes, France; Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; Cascais, Portugal; London, England; and Oslo, Norway next year, with deals in the tens of millions of Euros evolving from each conference.

Focus Sectors include aquaculture, pharmaceuticals from the sea, energy, food, by-product utilization, and environment.
