Rick Smith

Rick Smith is the editor and co-founder of WRAL TechWire, which launched in January 2002. Before launching what was then called Local Tech Wire, Smith worked for numerous newspapers over a period of more than 30 years. He is the co-author of "The Internet Strategic Plan," published by John Wiley & Sons. He has written for numerous magazines, including Business North Carolina and Metro Magazine Raleigh. Smith also has been an entrepreneur, running his own Internet and web consulting business for several years. He has received numerous press awards for writing, editing and photography. Smith got his start in journalism as a sophomore in high school, writing for his hometown newspaper in Mooresville, Ind., and for numerous other newspapers. He attended Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, majoring in elementary education with a minor in history. He and his wife, Lynda, live in Raleigh and have two sons, Ross, who owns his own car repair business in Raleigh, and Ryan, an ECU graduate with a degree in marketing and an aspiring musician.
