VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle maker building a factory in Chatham County, will begin selling cars in the Triangle on Thursday.

Leith Automotive, located in Cary, will be the home of the company’s first non-factory-owned dealership in the United States.

At 2000 Auto Park Blvd., Leith Vinfast will introduce the company’s electric vehicles to the Raleigh, Durham, and Cary areas. The dealership, operating in coordination with the upcoming factory in Chatham County, is part of a strategic plan.

The VF9, a versatile seven-passenger SUV, is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2024, with the VF7s to follow soon after.

A spokesperson for Leith says it will work in tandem with the new factory being built in Chatham County. The groundbreaking was held in July.

Projected to be completed in 2025, the initial phase aims to produce up to 150,000 electric vehicles annually, further propelling North Carolina's position as a hub for clean energy and automotive innovation.

"For the average person that's got a shorter commute to work, driving 30 miles each way, it's great," Danny Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Leith Automotive Group, said. "The part I loved about it is I hate to stop for gas. I never have to stop at a gas station. I go home at night, I plug it up, I get in, I drive to work, I plug it back up I never have any issues."
