RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — Job openings in the Triangle hovered at low numbers this week, according to the most recent edition of the WRAL TechWire Jobs Report.

Last week, the total number of postings fell to the lowest since WRAL began tracking this data two years ago. This week, postings were up by a slight 0.7% — now to 244,918 postings total (not accounting for post duplications).

The news tracks national trends with posted open jobs climbing by 300,000 last month, according to federal data. Statewide, the North Carolina jobs market remains strong with unemployment at 3.4%.

However, on the tech front the news is not good.

Hiring by technology companies continues to step back, according to CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce. CompTIA’s analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Jobs Report showed that tech sector companies reduced headcount by a modest 4,725 jobs in May.

North Carolina was amongst the top 10 states for total number of tech postings, coming in at No. 8 with 8,791 postings, according to the CompTIA report, but our state still saw a decrease in May numbers compared to April by about 1,500 postings.
