RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – VinFast is launching its latest model – an electric powered SUV called the VF9 – in its home country of Vietnam and says it has plans to ship models to the U.S. for sale in “coming months.”
After stories about delays in opening its U.S. factory to be built in Chatham County and the departures of some key executives, the electric vehicle manufacturer is focused on vehicles today.
According to a report from Reuters, the country announced the availability of the VF9 early Thursday.

“After Vietnam, VinFast expects to export the first batch of VF9 to international markets in the coming months,” Reuters quoted VinFast as stating.
The VF9 is a big vehicle, with three rows of seats and two electric motors. It promises fast charging – to 70% from 10% in 35 minutes.
Prices start at $83,000.
According to its website, VinFast describes the VF9 as:
