GREENSBORO – Minority-owned digital infrastructure firm ImpactData will invest more than $130 million to build out a new facility in the Gateway Research Park South Campus in East Greensboro.

Once completed, the 115,000 square foot facility known as the Dream Center will be staffed by at least 28 new jobs created by the company, which “delivers mission critical infrastructure focused on partnerships with HBCUs and their surrounding communities in select national markets,” according to a statement.

The investment was announced on Thursday morning and includes a partnership with North Carolina A&T State University.

In a statement, Terry Comer, the CEO of ImpactData, called the project “a bright reflection of our company’s national vision for reshaping public private partnerships.”

North Carolina saw a record number of economic development projects in 2022, in terms of the capital that companies plan to invest, and the number of jobs expected to be created.  That includes a decision from Proctor & Gamble to invest in $110 million in an expansion project in Greensboro, announced last March. And growth is expected to come to the region, with Boom Supersonic investing $500 million with plans to hire as many as 2,400 workers.

Beyond the Dream Center

Alongside the Dream Center, the campus will also include a newly constructed Community Education Center for Guilford County Schools, which will include flexible spaces that will enable tutoring and educational programming, adult education and digital skills initiatives, and community meetings.

“ImpactData’s Dream Center Campus plans are a great example of the progress that can be made when we combine the strengths of a leading research university with the opportunities that can be found at a dynamic research park,” said North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor Harold L. Martin, Sr., in a statement.  “Both A&T and Gateway Research Park are committed to economic success in East Greensboro and throughout our city, and as a university with a $1.5 billion economic impact across this state, that commitment is heartfelt on our campus.”

According to a company statement, ImpactData will also partner with DigitalBridge (NYSE: DBRG).

“DigitalBridge is pleased to support ImpactData’s engagement with NCA&T and the Greensboro community through the development of its innovation center designed to drive advancement and upskilling while also providing a new, high-quality data center to support companies in the area,” said Marc Ganzi, CEO at DigitalBridge.

The planned facility is currently in the advanced design and planning phase.

“We are grateful, and focused on the opportunity to establish high-speed connectivity, advanced digital infrastructure and digital transformation in these communities.” said David Calloway, COO for ImpactData.

ImpactData is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
