RALEIGH – The Triangle Tweener Fund, founded by serial entrepreneur Scot Wingo, will add another Triangle-based serial entrepreneur as general partner.

Robbie Allen, who founded, grew, and then sold Automated Insights, has joined Wingo at the Triangle Tweener Fund.  Allen’s initial involvement in the Triangle Tweener Fund was as a founding investor in the firm.

In a statement shared with WRAL TechWire, Wingo noted that the addition of Allen will enable Wingo to “take the Tweener Fund to the next level.”

The Triangle Tweener Fund was announced last December and is a rolling fund designed to provide local entrepreneurs and investors to commit amounts as low as $5,000 per quarter to the regional fund that is designed to invest in growth-stage startups that are in between early and late stages.

Just how many of those companies are in the Triangle?

According to the latest release of the Triangle Tweener List, 251 startups in the region meet the criteria that Wingo established when he began to research and add companies to the list.  Data shared by Wingo in the latest release shows that the number of Triangle firms that qualify as “Tweeners” has grown from 142 companies in 2017 to the 251 companies at the end of 2021.

But an analysis of 2021 Triangle Tweener List companies by WRAL TechWire found that the list of startups is scant on women-led or Black-led companies.
