DURHAM – Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions will expand the firm’s  commerce platform, the company announced Tueseday while participating at the National Retail Federation Conference. And it continues to hire.

According to a company statement, the expansion “ushers in a new era of retail technology – agile, interconnected, and infinitely adaptable.”

The Durham-based group  announced more than 45 native microservices, and noted that the new ELERA Internet of Things platform “seamlessly interconnects and shares data between IoT devices” and improves self-checkout along with inventory visibility and staff utilization.  There are more than 550 APIs available on the platform, the company noted.

“Through our next generation ELERA solutions and platform, retailers finally have access to transformative, scalable technologies that are accelerating the advent of real-time insights, computing at the edge, and the frictionless future,” said Yevgeni Tsirulnik, Vice President, Digital Platform Product Family at Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions.

Toshiba, which has big Triangle presence, is reorganizing

“The days of implementing these and other technologies in silos are over,” said Tsirulnik.  The true value of these advanced technologies can only be realized when they are interconnected, unified, and scaled on a single, flexible platform—creating a single source of evolving customer data that makes every retail application smarter and accessible from all devices, touchpoints, and systems,” he added.

The company, which announced in 2021 it was reorganizing, including impacting its facility in Durham, may hire as many as 300 people in 2022, according to CEO Rance Poehler. He told an audience in November that the firm expected to hire between 200 and 300 people within the next year.
