MORRISVILLE – More than 800 temporary workers at a plant that prints Pokemon cards in Morrisville have been laid off, according to media reports.

The job cuts took place at Millennium Print Group, which is owned by Pokemon.

Despite the layoffs, the company says it is seeking to fill 11 open jobs in North Carolina, most of which are in the Triangle.

The firm occupies more than 1.4 million square feet of space, according to its website.

No mass layoff notice has yet been filed with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The Millennium layoff total ranks as one of the largest in North Carolina this year. Yellow Corporation, Klaussner Furniture Industries, and Pactiv Evergreen Inc. Canton Paper Mill made bigger job cuts, according to layoff reports filed with the state.

WRAL TechWire has reached out to the company for comment.

Bulbgarden, which closely follows Pokemon, reported the news and notes that MPG has between 1,000 and 5,000 workers based on information from its LinkedIn site.

The job cuts were first reported by the Triangle Business Journal.
