RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — Job openings in the Triangle hit a new low this week, according to the most recent edition of the WRAL TechWire Jobs Report. The total number of postings fell to the lowest since WRAL began tracking this data two years ago — to 230,488 postings total (not accounting for post duplications).
As the Federal Reserve continues to raise interest rates despite a recent pause in order to fight inflation and slow the economy, the Triangle jobs picture has slowly dimmed even as unemployment remains near record lows. Tech job openings have fallen, according to the NC Tech Association, and a recent Duke Fuqua economic survey found many company execs are taking a someone dimmer view of the economy. Last week, meanwhile, UNC Kenan professor Dr. Gerald Cohen reiterated his expectations a recession is on the way.
This is the sixteenth week in 2023 that job numbers hit a new low.
The bad news is countered by some good news — at 50 top Triangle companies that WRAL TechWire tracks weekly for hiring news, 49 of the 50 are hiring. Follow the jobs report articles at WRAL Tech
