DURHAM – Shutterfly, a provider of personalized products and custom design such as photo books, is shutting its Durham operation – formerly Spoonflower – according to a layoff notice filed with the state of North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The facility is the Spoonflower production facility. Shutterfly acquired Spoonflower for $225 million in August 2021. Spoonflower produces custom products such as fabric and wallpaper.

“Production operations currently performed at the facility in Durham will be transferred to other existing Shutterfly facilities over the coming months. As a result, all jobs at the Durham production facility will be eliminated and employment separations will occur from July 7, 2023 to December 31, 2023,” Pamela McKee
Senior Director, Human Resources at Shutterfly, said in the letter. “Most employees will separate on July 7, 2023 or July 28, 2023. A few employees will remain employed through December 31, 2023 at which time the building will be closed.”

The closure means the loss of 108 jobs, according to the notice.

Shutdown is set for Dec. 31.

The operation is located at 3871 S. Alston Ave.

Shutterfly named a new CEO last week. It is based in San Jose, Calif.

The company announced plans to layoff some 400 employees earlier this year. It also made job cuts in 2022.

Shutterfly operates three divisions:  Consumer, Lifetouch and Shutterfly Business Solutions.
