RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK  – MCNC is expanding its management position with a new role – senior director of innovation – and has hired tech veteran Phil Emer to fill the role. 

“This senior position will be a key contributor to MCNC’s future, building on more than 40 years of technology leadership in North Carolina and defining a roadmap for growth and sustainability over the next decade,” MCNC said in the announcement Monday.

MCNC is the operator of the state-wide fiber-based  NC Research and Education Network.

Emer has more than three decades of experience in a variety of roles, including public and private sector jobs. Previous positions include as a business development manager for Amazon Web Services and as an engineer with IBM.

He worked in 2001 as Director of the Grid Technology Evaluation Center in MCNC’s Advanced Technologies Group.

His approach to building collaborative relationships will showcase MCNC as a vibrant hub for innovation, growing access to advanced technology across North Carolina.”
