CHARLOTTE – An international asset management firm is moving its headquarters location from California to the Queen City and plans to open a new corporate headquarters in Charlotte.

Allspring Global Investments is an asset management firm with $476 billion in assets under management currently.

The company was previously a division of Wells Fargo, known as Wells Fargo Asset Management, which was sold in a deal that was announced in February 2021 and closed in November 2021.  The company would conduct a rebrand in early November 2021.

At the time of the sale, the company employed about 100 workers in Charlotte in an existing office space.  According to a statement issued on Thursday, the company will continue to employ its workforce as well as house several of the firm’s senior-level positions from new office facility.

“We are thrilled to announce the official opening of our corporate headquarters in Charlotte, which we believe is an important step in Allspring’s journey to elevate investing to be worth more,” said Joe Sullivan, CEO of Allspring, in a statement issued on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the company told WRAL TechWire that Allspring was hosting multiple events in the facility space today.

According to the statement, the company selected Charlotte for its corporate headquarters due to North Carolina’s business-friendly environment.  Charlotte is also an important east coast financial hub, the company noted.

Earlier this year, Bank of London selected Charlotte for a U.S. headquarters location that will also include a technology hub.

The new office

According to the company, sustainability was among the top considerations for the design of the new headquarters location.

“The vision for our corporate headquarters was to build the office of the future, optimizing the hybrid workplace and building employee excitement to return to the office,” said Dave Bullock, head of corporate sustainability and facilities for Allspring.  “The sustainability overlay was a critical element for us because environmental stewardship is an important part of Allspring’s culture.”

According to the statement, the building received LEED Gold Certification.

In total, the firm employs more than 450 investment professionals globally.  The use of the name “Allspring” is as a trade name for the asset management companies of Allspring Global Investments Holdings, LLC, a holding company that is indirectly owned by certain private funds of GTCR LLC and Reverence Capital Partners, L.P., the company’s statement noted.

Earlier this month, the company opened an office in Singapore.
