RESEARCH TIANGLE PARK – Global giant Lenovo is the latest big tech firm to offer a flexible workplace option for employees, including thousands in the Triangle.

Effective the week of Oct. 31, workers will be required to be in the office three days a week.

For the other two days, employees have the option to work remotely.

The company announced the policy to workers in North America on Monday.

“Following the roll out of a voluntary hybrid work model for employees in April 2022, Lenovo North America is now transitioning to its next phase of hybrid work with a new 3:2 Model effective the week of October 31. The new model means that employees will collaborate and work together for at least three days a week in-office with the flexibility option of working up to two days a week remotely,” said Kirk Skaugen, Executive Vice President, Lenovo; President, Infrastructure Solutions Group; and the North America Site Leader, in a statement.

“We recognize that great things happen when people connect. Since its beginnings, our global company has thrived as a hub of groundbreaking technical innovation due to its focus on cultivating employees’ skills and promoting strong cross-team collaboration, while also providing space for important team camaraderie. We believe our new flexible 3:2 Hybrid Model will provide our teams with the benefits of working together in-person with the added flexibility to balance work and well-being,” he added.

Raleigh-based Red Hat recently embraced workplace options for its workers.

However, communications services provider Bandwidth, which is also based in Raleigh, recently said it’s requiring workers to return to offices.

Skaugen also noted that Lenovo has made changes to help workers in offices.

“As part of the next phase of the Hybrid Model, Lenovo has made several workplace improvements to welcome and ease employees back into the office, including enhanced safety measures like sanitizer stations and updated air filter systems, upgraded Lenovo meeting room technology to better support a hybrid work model, and other on-site upgrades, employee activities and additions,” he explained.

Lenovo operates two global headquarters – one in the Triangle and the other in Beijing.
