CARY – Twitter and internet news sites are abuzz with renewed rumors that tech titan and avid gamer Elon Musk is contemplating the purchase of globally popular Fortnite from Cary-based Epic Games. And – who knows – maybe Musk would part with billions of dollars freed from his fortune should he succeed in NOT buying Twitter.

Right now, the answer is “no.” But the rumors continue as they have before.

“Earlier in the year, Musk was keen on buying Twitter for reasons only clear to him. For the rest of us, it was simply a strange billionaire trying to stay in touch with the youth. Talks fell down and the deal never happened, however, that solidified the ‘Elon Musk buys everything,’ meme, which naturally reached Fortnite,” reports EarlyGame.com

“So there you have it, nothing more to it than baseless but fun rumors. If something does come out of it, however, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.”

Back in the fall of 2018 Musk himself triggered a Fortnite buyout rumor binge.

The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX took to Twitter to take on Fortnite, acknowledging in his tweet just how popular – and often addictive – the online game has become.

“Elon Musk buys Fortnite and deletes it,” read the news.

“I had to save the kids from eternal virginity,” he wrote.

Now what?

Fortnite’s official blog is silent on the rumors, instead touting its latest adventure:
