RALEIGH – Biopharmaceutical manufacturing firm ABEC is expanding to Wilson, N.C. and creating more than 250 jobs as part of an $11 million expansion.

North Carolina’s Economic Investment Committee approved a Job Development Investment Grant worth $2 million at a meeting Tuesday morning. The company also will receive more than $300,000 in community college training and local incentives of some $300,000.

New jobs will pay an average wage of more than $52,000, according to the agreement.

ABEC’s focus is on providing specialized “single-use” systems, stainless steel equipment, and process development services to biotech companies. It also has facilities in Springfield, Mo., Shanghai, and two in Ireland, according to NCBiotech writer Jim Shamp.

“Biomanufacturers that must operate at the highest levels of precision and quality choose North Carolina time and time again,” said Gov. Roy Cooper in an announcement released after the EIC meeting.  “Biotech is a statewide industry, and ABEC will find the technical expertise and outstanding workforce they need in Wilson County.”

The company will use the new facility for the manufacturing of disposable containers.

According to ABEC, its focus is on:

  • Provide comprehensive bioprocess services, including equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs worldwide while adhering to ABEC and customer safety protocols.
  • Accelerate the design and build of complete bioprocess lines.
  • Deliver customized single-use disposable containers faster than any other supplier in the industry.
