RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Several big job boards are reporting either minimal increases or some reductions in openings across the Triangle region, but the hunt for talent to fill tech-related jobs remains high with thousands of open positions.

SAS, IBM, Pendo, Duke Energy, Truist, Bank of America and Citrix are just a few of the firms looking for talent.

For example, Fidelity Investments continues to expand its North Carolina workforce and plans to hire as many as 1,700 roles in the state. That’s in addition to the nearly 2,000 employees the company added last year in the state, with the vast majority of those roles based in the company’s Research Triangle Park campus, said Leslie Lillard Walden, vice president of regional public affairs for Fidelity Investments, in an interview with WRAL TechWire.

“The majority of them will be based in Research Triangle Park,” said Walden, adding that there there are a few remote-based technology positions and some roles in Charlotte that the company plans to hire, as well. Last year, the company announced plans to hire 500 workers, then later in the year, committed to another 1,500 roles.

And the NC Technology Association in a new report found that many tech execs plan to keep hiring, according to its latest quarterly pulse survey. Brooks Raiford, president and CEO of NC TECH, says worries aren’t a drag on hiring plans. An overwhelming majority, 94.3% of respondents, noted their organizations still planned to hire additional staff in the coming months. But there are some concerns about the current state of the labor market, with 57% of respondents noting they have some concern about the talent supply and more than half reporting concerns about workers choosing to retire as a part of the so-called “Great Resignation.”
