RALEIGH – North Carolina’s newest Airbnb properties generated $75 million in income for property owners, according to the short-term and vacation-rental marketplace.

That’s sixth in the nation, even as North Carolina is the 9th-most populous state in the U.S.  The top five states for new host income were California, Florida, Texas, New York, and Georgia, according to the company.

Airbnb told WRAL TechWire that the company has now assisted its hosts in earning a total of $150 billion, with $60 billion in the United States, since the company was founded.

In 2021, the typical Airbnb host based in the United States saw an income of $13,800.  According to Airbnb’s data, that’s 85% higher than the income generated by the typical U.S.-based host in 2019.  Through the first three quarters, the typical North Carolina host had already generated more than $8,000, WRAL TechWire reported previously.

There’s now a rush for those considering purchasing a second home to buy vacation properties, according to prior WRAL TechWire reporting.
