DURHAM – NCCU Men’s Basketball Coach LeVelle Moton’s Velle Cares Foundation has forged a partnership with Google that will begin deploying scholarships for the Grow with Google Career Certificate Program.
The foundation has limited scholarships available to cover the cost of one of four professional certification courses in IT Support, Data Analytics, User Experience (UX) Design, or Project Management. Google Career Certificates provide people with access to in-demand jobs through rapid reskilling without the need for a college degree or prior experience in the supported field. These certificates were developed and taught by Google employees, and are hands-on, practical, and rigorous. They can be completed in under six months part-time, and fully online.
“I am very excited about our partnership with Google. Velle Cares Foundation is committed to increasing access to opportunity for families to expand their economic power,” Moton says. “Grow with Google does just that, and the program’s proven track record of success will reset the course for low-wealth communities and people of color in the Triangle by unlocking higher incomes and a chance to enter a career field with high demand and high wages.”
Nationally, 82% of certificate graduates report a positive career impact within six months. There are currently over 1.2 million in-demand job openings across certificate fields. Velle Cares Foundation is collaborating with Triangle nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and existing workforce development programs to identify learners and provide supports to ensure participant success. The foundation will also work with graduates to connect them to local companies seeking to hire workers with Google Career Certificates.
