CARY — Epic Games has a new president. His name is Adam Sussman, and he formerly served as the chief digital officer for the sneakers and athletics company Nike based out of Beaverton, Oregon.

“After 5.5 great years at Nike, I have decided to move on to my next opportunity as President of Epic Games,” he wrote on his LinkedIn account on Wednesday, Feb. 12, announcing the move.

“Nike is an amazing brand, I got a chance to work with many great people and I am so proud of what we accomplished together. While it’s bittersweet, I am so excited to join Epic and honored to be part of the remarkable team that has built one of the biggest games in the world.

He added: “2020 will be a big year for me and my wife, 3 kids and two dogs. . . A return to gaming, a move to North Carolina and an opportunity to help change the future of gaming.”

According to his profile, he has been serving in the position since January.

An Epic Games spokesperson confirmed the move to GameSpot.

Epic Games is expanding its headquarters in a big way to accommodate up to 2,000 employees, the Cary-based games developer and creators of global-hit Fortnite confirmed today. This does not necessarily mean new hires, however.

Founded in 1991 by Tim Sweeney, Epic Games is the creator of Fortnite, Unreal, Gears of War, Shadow Complex, and the Infinity Blade series of games. Epic’s Unreal Engine technology brings high-fidelity, interactive experiences to PC, console, mobile, AR, VR and the Web.

Corporate headquarters are in Cary with an estimated 1,000 workers worldwide. Last October, the firm announced plans to add a 450,000- to 500,000-square-foot facility on its campus at the corner of Crossroads Boulevard and Jones Franklin Road, a property that Epic has owned since 2015.
