In 2015, a team of chemists — Dr. Stephen Benkovic, Dr. Lucy Shapiro, Dr. Paul Schimmel, Dr. Gerald Fink, and Dr. C. Tony Liu – founded the Durham-based company as a spinout of Pennsylvania State University.
