Give ‘gig economy’ workers equity? The SEC is considering it
The gig economy has created economic opportunities for millions of people at companies such as Lyft and Uber. But these workers are considered contractors, not employees, and federal securities law restricts private companies from issuing shares to such workers. That could be changing.
