Raleigh startup MobiCompete is turning smartphones into game controllers, part of its strategy to create more effective mobile marketing platforms.
“Brand sponsors spend billions at live events, media channels and entertainment merchants to engage with customers with difficulty engaging them in real time, activating them to take action and minimal analytics to measure effectiveness of money spent. This is a universal issue across brands no matter the venue or channel,” says CEO Chris Angel.
“We are utilizing a unique method of contests and games using the ubiquitous smartphone to solve this problem that greatly exceeds their minimal expectations and returns today. The market for this application is international in scope across multiple verticals.”
The company will be making its business case to potential investors at the CED Tech Venture Conference in Raleigh on Sept. 19-20.

The Q&A:
- What is the focus of your business?
mobiCompete is a mobile competition platform using contests and games in a unique way for brands to engage with their users beyond just eye/ear impressions. mobiCompete actively engages with the audience at live events, media channels and entertainment merchants and is a mobile marketing platform for brands that delivers real intelligence on the users.
- What is the top pain point/business application you are seeking to address?
ENGAGEMENT- Increase experience through Contests / Games for venues, media channels and brands in real time
ACTIVATE- Rewards to incentivize behavior of users for brands to increase revenue and sponsorship value

- What makes it unique?
mobiCompete will connect users’ smartphones as a game controller for inputting choices in contests shown on main monitors or media channels in real time.
