Veteran entrepreneur Flip Filipowski and partner Brian Platz are presenting their emerging startup, Fluree, at the CED Tech Venture Conference. Fluree targets what it calls “low-code” cloud app development.

Why cloud apps?

“Business apps have yet to be disrupted in a manner like Amazon AWS did to data centers, and iOS did to consumer apps,” say Filipowski and Platz.

“Fluree provides the best solution to enable this transition and is built by a management team with a strong track record.”

The two are counting opn their resumes to help convince investors to back the firm. They and others have already put $2 million into Fluree, which is based in Winston-Salem and has 12 employees.

“Our founders have been in enterprise software for an average of 30 years and together built a leading Human Resources software SaaS business, two publicly traded software companies and the 8th largest software company in the world,” the co-CEOs say.

“Our experiences have always led us to what is next, and it is clear to us that SaaS is a band-aid to solve a huge supply problem in business technology demand. There is a need for a better way, and we are certain Fluree represents how the next generation of apps will be built.”

The Q&A:

  • What is the focus of your business?

Fluree’s App Factory enables low-code cloud app development for businesses. It eliminates ongoing operational costs, is pay-for-use, and provides a community to share and monetize apps. Fluree also publishes its own apps with the App Factory in under-represented SaaS categories that provide significant business value.

  • What is the top pain point/business application you are seeking to address?

Technology is becoming more critical to every business, and already app demand outweighs development capacity by 5:1. The average enterprise now has 508 SaaS applications, all operating as silos. Costs are out of control, the business isn’t getting what it needs and SaaS bloat is unsustainable. Fluree solves all of these pain points: speed, ongoing costs, and integration.

  • What makes it unique?

Our founders have been in enterprise software for an average of 30 years and together built a leading Human Resources software SaaS business, two publicly traded software companies and the 8th largest software company in the world.

Our experiences have always led us to what is next, and it is clear to us that SaaS is a band-aid to solve a huge supply problem in business technology demand. There is a need for a better way, and we are certain Fluree represents how the next generation of apps will be built.

  • Why should investors be interested in your firm?

Cloud software already represents approximately $200 billion annually with SaaS expected to sustain 18% CAGR and PaaS 36% CAGR through 2025.

Business apps have yet to be disrupted in a manner like Amazon AWS did to data centers, and iOS did to consumer apps. Fluree provides the best solution to enable this transition and is built by a management team with a strong track record.

  • How are you financed at this point?

Predominately self-funded with $2MM invested and some friends and family contribution.
