The Council for Entrepreneurial Development is bringing one of the world’s top venture capitalists to speak at its Tech Venture Conference.

Jim Goetz, a partner at Sequoia Capital, was ranked No. 1 on the “Midas List” of top VCs as compiled by Forbes in both 2014 and 2015.

Goetz and Sequoia also are invested in a startup with Triangle connections: Carbon3D, which is based in San Francisco but was founded by UNC and NCSU professor as well as serial entrepreneur and inventor Dr. Joseph DeSimone.

He and Sequoia both have impressive resumes.

“Sequoia is among the most successful venture capital firms ever, with Sequoia-backed companies accounting for more than 20% of the NASDAQ’s total value. Sequoia was an early investor in Apple, Oracle, Cisco, and Google,” the CED notes.

“Jim Goetz is a Partner at Sequoia, and has helped create and grow a number of technology companies and product lines to market leading positions. Sequoia and Goetz were the sole investor in WhatsApp (acquired by Facebook for $22B – the largest ever venture capital-backed private exit), and Goetz has had a string of previous exits including HubSpot (IPO 2014), Barracuda Networks (IPO 2013), Nimble Storage (IPO 2013), Ruckus Wireless (IPO 2012), and Palo Alto Networks (IPO 2012).”

The conference is Sept. 15-16 in Raleigh.
