Nine startups from Wilmington to the Triangle to Greensboro and Charlotte will be competing for grants worth as much as $50,000 from NC IDEA.

The economic development group, which is based in Durham, disclosed the finalists on Monday.

The applications had been cut to 26 in late March.

The finalists are:

  • Akili Software, Raleigh 
  • ColoWrap, Durham
  • Essay Assay, Durham
  • iScribes, Durham
  • KWIPPED, Wilmington
  • Luxury Shoe Club, Cary
  • The Torch, Charlotte
  • Trinket, Durham
  • Urban Offsets, Greensboro    

The finalists will be selected for in-person presentations to a review panel.

Winners will be announced in June.

NC IDEA has awarded some $3.7 million in grants to 93 companies since the program’s launch in 2006.
